Start, Stop, Continue - Turning 20 Edition!
Completing 20 years of my life, I thought it is high time that I reflect upon my lessons and boil it down to a post that I can look at to remind myself of these learnings. I hope you enjoy!
Happy 20th Birthday to me! Over the past two decades, and especially the last five years, my life has undergone a tremendous amount of transformations. As someone who tends to overthink and reflect on even the smallest decisions, I strive to make choices that are not only right for the present but also for my future. Given the chaos that this year has brought, I can only anticipate the upheavals that may come as I enter my 20's (woohoo). With this blog as an outlet, I was hoping to share some of the lessons I have learnt and publicly commit to them.
I am simply going to list them in a Start, Stop, Continue fashion because that's the easiest to keep track of while being somewhat descriptive. Thanks for joining me and becoming a part of my journey!
Start
- Understanding the power of compounding: Money, Happiness, Positivity, Growth, Habits
- Prioritizing health - physical, mental, and spiritual
- Choosing opportunities - Hell yeah or no
- Happiness is a choice – Being and staying happy is in my control
- Choosing your closest 10 people wisely
- Your time is the most valuable thing you own - spend it on right experiences, people, and items
- Prioritizing personal freedom - freedom from your fears, connections that weigh you down, responsibilities you aren't excited about
- Meditating somewhat regularly
- Understanding the power of habits and atomic changes
- Prioritizing people who prioritize you
- Focusing on Keystone Habits - These habits will set other productive habits in motion
Stop
- Comparing your life with others - start learning from their lives and ask questions about how they were able to achieve what they have
- Surrounding yourself with social vampires (these are people who suck life/energy out of you - you need to surround yourself with people who help you grow and make you feel rejuvenated after you hang out)
- Worrying about other people's opinions
- Reliving/Imagining the negative moments of your life – Why would you want to live a negative moment twice?
- Victim mentality - you are not a victim of other people's actions but only yours
- Forcing yourself to finish things you are not enjoying/growing in
- Being a perfectionist - Perfect is the enemy of good
- Chasing happiness - Chase growth and discipline
- Focusing on the "What ifs"
- Impressing others - No one is as impressed by your achievements as you are
- Avoiding embarrassment - you will get over being embarrassed, but you won't get back missed opportunities.
Continue
- Embracing change - Change is the only constant in life (plan for things to not go according to your plan)
- Prioritizing discipline over motivation
- Nothing is that deep – most things in life are reversible/retrievable/improvable
- Anger is a tool used to hurt others - there is no reason to be angry
- Reading to learn new skills
- Enjoying process over product
- Everything is figure-out-able: continue believing that you will eventually figure something out
- Seeking opportunities to grow - podcast, books, people
Thanks for sticking through this list and rooting for me. I love all of you!
